HCPSS Superintendent Barnes recently announced Girls Flag Football as a varsity sport at all HCPSS high schools beginning in the 2026-2027 school year. The announcement was made during the Hammond vs. Oakland Mills football game Sept. 19, where Mr. Barnes was joined by the County Executive and representatives from Howard County government and the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens and Under Armour pledged a charitable donation contingent upon the continued offering of Girls Flag Football in future seasons. Howard County Parks and Recreation Department will offer a Girls Flag Football program this fall, followed by HCPSS advancing it as a varsity sport the following school year.
