Approximately 45 students from each HCPSS high school have been invited to observe live oral arguments in our auditorium and participate in Q&A sessions with justices about the judicial process. As GPHS is hosting, our 45 selected Panthers will also have the unique opportunity to eat lunch with the justices!
Because these are actual court proceedings, standard Maryland Supreme Court security procedures and personnel will be in place in the GPHS parking lots and Performing Arts Area throughout the day. Please review the important logistical details below:
- Location & Facilities: The Maryland Supreme Court will utilize the Auditorium, Panther Alley (the hallway between the Gymnasium and Auditorium), and the Performing Arts Hallway. Performing arts classes (Music, Theatre, Dance) will be relocated for the day, but no other classes will be impacted.
- Event Access: Auditorium/Gymnasium entrance (Panther Alley) will serve as the primary entry and exit point for event attendees. Only authorized guests will be permitted to enter.
- Security & Police Presence: Personnel from the Howard County Police Department, Howard County Sheriff's Office, and HCPSS Office of School Security will be present in the GPHS parking lots and Performing Arts Area throughout the day.
- Student Arrival: The regular pick-up and drop-off loop will remain open until 7:50 AM. Students dropped off before 7:50 AM should enter through the main front doors. Parents arriving after 7:50 AM will be directed to the front staff parking lot. Bus transportation is not expected to be impacted, and security personnel will assist with traffic management.
- Dismissal: The event is scheduled to conclude at 2:00 PM, and regular GPHS dismissal procedures will be followed.
